Monster Truck High Speed

Comments

Most people play Monster Truck High Speed with two fingers on the arrow keys and never touch anything else.

They're missing the entire scoring system.

Spacebar is drift, and drifting is how you earn points. Those points buy better trucks. Drive a clean, careful line through all ten levels and you'll finish with almost nothing to spend.

There are also three separate flip keys — Z, X and C — that barely anyone knows exist.

Here's the complete control scheme and how to actually build a score.

What Is Monster Truck High Speed?

Monster Truck High Speed is a free 3D driving game by Vitality Games, released in 2022. It's built on WebGL and runs in your browser with no download.

monster truck high speed

You drive a monster truck down a colourful elevated road packed with ramps, curves and rolls — bright skies, rainbow scenery, snow effects and clouds. It's less a race and more a stunt run.

You're at full speed the whole way. The game isn't asking you to manage your throttle — it's asking whether you can handle a road like this while flat out. There are 10 levels, and falling off the road ends your run.

One thing to know upfront: this is a desktop game. It needs a keyboard, and it isn't built for phones or tablets.

Spacebar is drift, not brake

This is the key that changes the game.

Hitting Space breaks traction and slides the truck, and every drift move earns you points. Those points are what unlock new and better trucks.

Most players never press it, because in most driving games Space is a handbrake you'd only use in emergencies. Here it's your income.

Tap it into corners. The road is full of curves — each one is a scoring opportunity rather than something to survive.

Shift is nitro

Nitro gives you a speed burst. Since you're already travelling fast, use it on straight sections, not into the curves you're trying to drift through.

Z, X and C are flips

Three separate flip inputs, and almost nothing online mentions them.

Use them in the air after ramps. The road is full of launches, and a flip banks style on top of whatever drift points you've already earned. Try all three to see what each does — they're different moves, not three copies of the same one.

Don't flip on small jumps. If you're still rotating when you land, you'll go off the road. Save them for the big ramps where you can clearly see the landing.

How to Score Points

The loop is simple once you know it:

Drift through corners → earn points → buy better trucks → handle harder levels.

Practical approach:

Treat every curve as a drift. Don't just steer around a bend — tap Space and slide it. A clean drift through a corner is worth far more than a tidy line through the same corner.

Chain your moves. Drift into a corner, hit the ramp, flip in the air, land and drift again. Consecutive moves are where scores get big.

But land clean. A flip you don't complete puts you off the road, and that ends the run — cancelling everything you'd banked on the way there.

The balance: drift everywhere, flip only when you've got the airtime for it.

Don't Fall Off the Road

The road is elevated, colourful, and has no forgiving edges. Fall off and you're done.

That creates the game's core tension: drifting scores points, and drifting also moves your truck sideways toward the edge.

Managing that:

Drift toward the inside of corners, not the outside. A slide that pushes you toward the middle of the road is safe; one that pushes you outward is a gamble.

Give yourself room before you slide. Position toward the inside before you tap Space, so the drift has somewhere to travel.

Ease off drifting on narrow sections. Some parts of the course don't leave enough width. Take those straight and bank your points on the wider curves.

Use the arrow keys to balance, not just steer. They correct your angle mid-slide and in the air, which is what keeps a big drift from becoming a fall.

Three Vehicles, Ten Levels

The course requires three different vehicles to get over all its obstacles. Different trucks handle differently, and some sections are built around a particular vehicle's characteristics.

Ten levels total, escalating in difficulty. Later levels bring tighter curves, bigger rolls and less margin for error.

Practical advice: if a level keeps beating you, check whether you've got the right truck for it before assuming it's a skill problem. Point-bought trucks aren't just cosmetic upgrades — they change what you can clear.

Upgrades: Engine, Turbo, Tyres

Three upgrade categories:

Upgrade

What it does

Engine

Power and speed

Turbo

Nitro strength

Tyres

Grip and drift control

Buy tyres first. This is counterintuitive in a game called High Speed, but here's the reasoning: your score comes from drifting, and drifting is a grip problem. Better tyres mean you can slide deliberately and recover from it, rather than sliding uncontrollably off the edge.

Turbo second, since nitro is genuinely useful on straights and helps clear the bigger ramps.

Engine last. You're already at full speed — more raw power mostly means arriving at the next corner with less time to set up your drift.

Tips That Actually Help

Press Space at every corner. It's your entire income stream.

Drift toward the inside. Sliding outward on an elevated road is how runs end.

Save flips for big ramps. Small jumps don't give you time to complete a rotation.

Nitro on straights only. Boosting into a curve you're trying to drift is a fast route off the road.

Learn each level once before chasing points. Knowing where the tight sections are lets you decide in advance where to drift hard and where to play safe.

Buy tyres before engine. Grip is what turns a drift into points instead of a fall.

Watch the road ahead. Curves and rolls arrive quickly at full speed, and you need to be setting up before you reach them.

Common Problems

I keep falling off the road. You're drifting outward. Position toward the inside of a corner before tapping Space.

I finish levels but have no points. You're not drifting. Clean driving earns almost nothing in this game.

My flips end in a crash. You're flipping on jumps that are too small. Only flip off the big ramps.

My truck won't slide. Space is the drift key. If it still feels unresponsive, upgrade your tyres.

I can't clear an obstacle. Some sections need a different vehicle. Check whether you've got the right truck for the level.

It won't work on my phone. It's desktop-only — you need a keyboard.

Keyboard doesn't respond. Click once directly on the game window first. Browser games need focus before they register keystrokes.

Frequently asked questions

Is Monster Truck High Speed free?

Yes — free in your browser, no download and no account needed.

Who made it?

Vitality Games. It's a WebGL browser game.

What are the controls?

Arrow keys to drive and balance, Spacebar to drift, Shift for nitro, and Z, X and C for flips.

How do I earn points?

By drifting. Every drift move scores, and points unlock new and better trucks.

What's the flip key?

There are three — Z, X and C — each performing a different flip.

How many levels are there?

Ten, increasing in difficulty.

How many vehicles are there?

Three different vehicles are needed to clear all the obstacles in the game.

What can I upgrade?

Engine, turbo and tyres.

Which upgrade should I buy first?

Tyres. Since your score comes from drifting, grip control matters more than raw power.
