There is a parachute in this game.
Press Z in mid-air and your rider deploys one. In a downhill mountain bike game. It turns a jump off a cliff from a crash into a slow, controlled float — and almost nobody knows the key exists.
There's also a TAB key that swaps your vehicle mid-session, and a garage that includes speed boats alongside the mountain bikes.
Here's the full guide: every control for both players, all three modes, and where the money actually comes from.
What Is Riders Downhill Racing?
Riders Downhill Racing is a free 3D offroad racing game by RHM Interactive, first released on April 17, 2024. It runs in your browser with no download.

You race down rugged mountain courses — rocky paths, muddy cyclocross tracks, steep drops and ramps — on a growing collection of vehicles. It starts with mountain bikes and cross bikes, then opens up into ATVs, quads, sports bikes, motorbikes and speed boats.
Every mode can be played solo or in local 2-player on one keyboard, which is the game's best feature and the reason to keep it open.

The three keys nobody uses
Z is your parachute. Deploy it mid-air and you descend slowly and under control instead of plummeting. Use it when:
· You've launched off a big drop and the landing looks bad
· You need to cross a long gap and you're going to come up short
· You want to line up a stunt with more hang time in Free Style mode
It converts a lot of would-be crashes into safe landings, and it's the single most useful key in the game.
Q is jump. Jumping isn't automatic here — you have a dedicated input, which means you can hop obstacles that don't have a ramp and extend a launch off one that does.
TAB switches your vehicle. Rather than restarting to change rides, you can swap on the fly. Handy in Free Style when a section suits a quad better than a bike.
R restarts. Worth knowing so you don't reload the page when a run goes wrong. In 2-player it's R for Player 1 and L for Player 2, so you can each reset independently.
The Three Modes
Racing Mode — Head-to-head races against other riders on a series of circuits. First to the finish line wins. Straightforward competition.
Career Mode — A structured progression through winding courses in different environments. You're racing the clock, not other riders — reach the finish before time runs out. Difficulty escalates as you go.
Free Style (Free Ride) — A large open map full of ramps and modules, with no timer and no opponents. Collect diamonds, pull stunts, and experiment with different vehicles.
All three work in 2-player.
Where the Money Comes From
Two currencies, two sources:
Coins — earned by completing levels in Racing and Career modes. These buy new vehicles.
Diamonds — collected in Free Style mode. These unlock items and costumes.
The practical implication: if you want a new bike, grind Racing and Career. If you want to unlock cosmetic items and gear, spend time collecting diamonds in Free Style.
Free Style is also the low-pressure mode, so it's a good place to farm while you're learning a vehicle's handling.
The Garage
Vehicles unlock progressively, and they genuinely handle differently:
· Mountain bikes — the starting point, light and agile
· Cross bikes — better suited to muddy cyclocross terrain
· ATVs and quads — four wheels means far more stability on rough ground
· Sports bikes and motorbikes — much faster, less forgiving
· Speed boats — for the water sections
If you keep crashing on rough terrain, try a quad. Four wheels is a huge stability advantage over two, and it makes technical descents dramatically more manageable while you learn a course.
If you keep running out of time in Career, go the other way — a faster motorbike will get you there, provided you can keep it upright.
You can also customise your rider with costumes bought using diamonds.
Downhill Technique
Control your speed on descents. Gravity is doing the work for you. The mistake is adding throttle on a steep section and arriving at the next obstacle with no way to slow down.
Use the camera (C) to find a view you can read. A wider angle helps on unfamiliar courses where you need to see what's coming.
Save nitro for climbs and straights. Boost on a downhill section just makes you faster than you can steer. Where it earns its keep is on flat or uphill stretches.
Jump (Q) before ramps, not on them. Hitting the jump key as you leave a ramp extends your launch. Pressing it too early wastes the input.
Deploy the parachute early. If a landing looks bad, hit Z while you've still got altitude. Waiting until you're about to hit the ground defeats the point.
Restart (R) rather than limping. In Career mode especially, a run where you've lost half your time is better restarted than finished.
Playing 2-Player
This is where the game is at its best, and it's worth setting up properly.
Player 1 uses WASD, Q, Z, Shift and R. Player 2 uses the arrow keys, K, P, M and L.
Two practical notes:
· A full-size keyboard makes a real difference. WASD and the arrow keys sit close enough on a laptop that two people bump hands, and Player 2's keys (K, P, M, L) are spread across the right side.
· Player 2 should do a Free Style lap first. Their key layout is less intuitive than Player 1's, and fumbling for the parachute mid-race decides a lot of matches.
Common Problems
I crash on every big drop. Press Z for the parachute while you still have height. It's the whole reason the key exists.
My jumps feel short. Use Q as you leave the ramp to extend the launch — jumping isn't automatic.
I can't change my bike without restarting. Press TAB to switch vehicles on the fly.
I keep losing control on rocky descents. Ease off the throttle — gravity is already providing plenty of speed. Or switch to a quad for the extra stability.
Player 1's arrow keys stopped working. In 2-player mode, Player 1 is WASD only. The arrow keys belong to Player 2.
I can't afford new vehicles. Coins come from Racing and Career modes. Free Style pays diamonds, which buy items rather than vehicles.
Keyboard doesn't respond. Click once directly on the game window first. Browser games need focus before they register keystrokes.
