Two facts about M5 Traffic Racer will change how you play it, and neither appears on the pages that rank for it.
In Bomb Mode, the magic number is 100 km/h. Drop below it and the bomb on your car starts draining. Stay above it and you're fine. That's the entire mechanic, stated plainly — no other guide gives you the actual figure.

In Time Limit mode, crashing doesn't end your run. Every other mode ends the moment you hit something. Time Limit doesn't. That means you can take risks there that would be suicidal anywhere else.
Here's the full guide.
What Is M5 Traffic Racer?
M5 Traffic Racer is a free 3D traffic racing game by Ritzy Games, built on Unity WebGL and playable in your browser with no download.
You drive at high speed down a long country highway — smooth asphalt, forest scenery — weaving through dense traffic. The faster you go and the closer you pass, the more you earn.
There are 21 cars modelled on real-world performance vehicles:
· BMW M-series — M2, M3, M4, M5 and M8
· Mercedes — AMG, CLS 63, and the G-Class (Gelandewagen)
· Dodge Challenger
· Porsche 911
· Audi TT
· Lamborghini
· Toyota Camry — the surprise entry, and oddly satisfying to drive
You start with the classic BMW E34 M5. Everything else has to be earned.
Controls
Action | Key |
Accelerate | W or Up arrow |
Brake | S or Down arrow |
Steer left | A or Left arrow |
Steer right | D or Right arrow |
Nitro boost | N |
Horn | L |
N is your nitro. Not Shift, not spacebar. If your boost has never worked, that's why.
L is the horn. It won't move traffic out of your way, but it's there.
You can also adjust graphics and sound settings to match your device, which is worth doing if the game stutters — most browser racers don't give you that option.
Set Up Your Run Before You Start
This is the bit most players skip straight past, and it matters.
Before a run you can choose:
· Time of day — daylight or darkness/night
· Traffic direction — one-way or two-way streets
Two-way traffic is the risk/reward setting. Oncoming cars close the gap at double speed, which halves your reaction window — but weaving through head-on traffic is where the biggest scores come from.
Start on one-way in daylight. Learn the handling and the scoring first, then turn the difficulty up deliberately rather than getting blindsided by it.
All the Game Modes
Career — Structured missions with specific goals, progressing through levels and unlocking content. There are over 40 levels. A crash ends the run.
Until Crash — Endless driving. No objective, no timer, no finish line. You go until you hit something.
Time Limit — Cover as much distance as you can within one minute. Crucially, a crash does not end the run — you keep going until the clock does.
Bomb Mode — Your car carries an explosive with its own health bar. It depletes whenever your speed drops below 100 km/h, or when you crash. Run the bomb's health out and you're finished.
Pre-Crash Mode — A collision is coming and you can't avoid it. Score as much as possible in the distance you have before impact ends the run.
Mode-Specific Strategy
Time Limit: be reckless
This is the standout tactical point in the whole game. Crashes don't end this mode.
That inverts everything. Elsewhere you drive carefully because one mistake is fatal. Here, a crash just costs you momentum — so squeeze into gaps you'd normally leave, take close passes you'd normally avoid, and keep the throttle down. Sixty seconds of aggression scores far better than sixty seconds of caution.
Bomb Mode: 100 km/h is the floor
Treat 100 km/h as a hard floor, not a target. The moment you dip under it, you're losing bomb health you can't get back.
That makes braking your enemy. In every other mode, slowing down for dense traffic is smart. Here it's actively costing you. Instead of braking, change lanes early — spot the blockage further ahead and move around it rather than slowing into it.
This is also the mode where good handling matters most, because you're committed to speed whether the road is clear or not.
Career: crashes are fatal, so plan the lane
With a run-ending crash and specific mission goals, Career rewards the opposite instincts. Stay in the middle lane, read traffic early, and don't chase points you don't need to complete the objective.
Earning and Upgrading
What scores: long runs, high speed, and close passes. Squeezing past traffic multiplies your score, so proximity is worth real money.
Where the money goes: buying the other 20 cars, and upgrading the one you've got.
The garage
You can upgrade engine, chassis, steering and braking, install nitro and turbo, and customise body colour and rim styles.
Buy steering and braking first. This is a game about placing your car precisely into gaps that are closing at speed. Better control prevents the crashes that end runs, and preventing crashes is worth more than going faster into them.
Then engine and turbo, once you can actually handle the extra pace.
Colour and rims last. They look great and score nothing.
Tips That Actually Help
Stay in the middle lane by default. You get the best visibility and escape routes on both sides. Against a barrier you've got one option, and if it closes you're done.
Use nitro on clear stretches only. Boost shrinks your reaction time. Fired into traffic, you'll be into the back of someone before you can steer.
Aim for close passes deliberately. They're not just a bonus — they're the main score multiplier. Once your handling is upgraded, threading gaps tightly is how you earn.
Change lanes early, don't brake late. Reading traffic further up the road is worth more than fast reactions to what's right in front of you.
Turn the graphics down if it stutters. The settings menu is right there, and a smooth frame rate is worth more than shadows.
Common Problems
My nitro doesn't work. The key is N.
My bomb keeps exploding. You're dropping below 100 km/h. Change lanes around slow traffic instead of braking behind it.
I crash constantly in two-way mode. Oncoming traffic halves your reaction window. Switch back to one-way until you're consistent.
My car feels uncontrollable at speed. Upgrade steering and braking before engine or turbo.
My scores are low despite long runs. Distance alone doesn't pay much. Close passes are the multiplier — get nearer to traffic, not further from it.
The game runs slowly. It's a Unity WebGL build. Lower the graphics settings in the menu and close other browser tabs.
Keyboard doesn't respond. Click once directly on the game window first. Browser games need focus before they register keystrokes.
Frequently asked questions
Is M5 Traffic Racer free?
Yes — free in your browser, no download or account needed. Who made it? Ritzy Games. It's built on Unity WebGL.
Who made it?
Ritzy Games. It's built on Unity WebGL.
How many cars are there?
21, modelled on real performance cars. You start with the BMW E34 M5.
What's the nitro key?
N. The horn is L.
What are the game modes?
Career (40+ levels), Until Crash, Time Limit, Bomb Mode and Pre-Crash Mode.
What's the speed limit in Bomb Mode?
Stay above 100 km/h. Below that, the bomb's health drains — as it also does when you crash.
Does crashing always end my run?
No. In Time Limit mode the run continues after a crash; you only stop when the clock does.
Can I choose the traffic direction?
Yes — one-way or two-way, plus daylight or night.
What should I upgrade first?
Steering and braking, then engine and turbo. Cosmetics last.
