There are two completely separate ways to unlock cars in Cyber Cars Punk Racing, and almost nobody uses the second one.
The obvious route is grinding Career mode for stars. The other route is hunting 60 hidden gems in Free Ride — no races, no opponents, no pressure. Just exploration.
If Career mode is beating you up, that second path is your way forward. Here's the full guide: controls, all four modes, and how the money actually works.
What Is Cyber Cars Punk Racing?
Cyber Cars Punk Racing is a free 3D racing game by AYN Games, the studio run by developer Özgür Aydın. It first launched in November 2020 and has been updated steadily ever since.
It's built on WebGL and runs straight in your browser — no download, no account.
The setting is a neon cyberpunk metropolis: glowing highways strung between skyscrapers, hologram billboards, and a synthwave-heavy art style. You race futuristic supercars across it in four different modes, earn money, and pour it into new cars, upgrades and skins.
There's also split-screen two-player on one keyboard, which is the most underrated thing in the game.
Controls
Player 1
Action | Key |
Drive / steer | WASD or Arrow keys |
Nitro | N |
Change camera | C |
Player 2 (split-screen)
Action | Key |
Drive / steer | WASD or Arrow keys |
Nitro | T |
The nitro key is N, not spacebar. Player 2 uses T. If your boost hasn't been firing, that's why — spacebar does nothing here.
C changes your camera and it's worth cycling early. A closer view helps you judge drift angles; a wider one is better for spotting police in Hot Chase.
Since two-player runs on a single keyboard, a full-size board makes it far more comfortable. On a cramped laptop keyboard, N and T sit awkwardly close to two sets of hands.
All 4 Game Modes
Career — The main progression. A series of races and challenges — checkpoint runs, quick races, stunt events — that pay cash rewards and stars. This is the best money-earner in the game, so if you're saving for a car, this is where to spend your time.
Free Ride — Open exploration with no timer, no damage and no restrictions. Two uses: it's the perfect place to learn the physics without consequences, and it's where the 60 hidden gems are.
Hot Chase — Police pursuit, and it works differently to everything else. It isn't a race — it's a survival mode with a health bar. Police chase you down, collisions drain your HP, and your goal is to last as long as possible before it runs out.
Battle Arena — A demolition derby. No finish line, no laps. You and other cars in an enclosed space, smashing each other up.
Each mode plays genuinely differently, so don't judge the game on Career alone.
Unlocking the 16 Cars
There are 16 futuristic supercars, and two ways to get them:
Path 1 — Career stars. Complete races and challenges to earn stars. Hit the thresholds and cars unlock.
Path 2 — Free Ride gems. There are 60 hidden gems scattered around the open Free Ride map. Collect them all and you unlock a secret car you can't get any other way.
Why the second path matters: gem hunting has no opponents, no timer and no fail state. If you're stuck on a Career race that keeps beating you, switching to gem hunting is real progress with zero pressure — and the secret car is a genuine reward, not a cosmetic.
Practical approach: run Career for money and upgrades, and when you hit a wall, go gem hunting for a while. You'll come back with a better car and fresher patience.
Earning Money Faster
Money buys cars, upgrades and skins. Two things to know:
Career pays best. Race wins and completed challenges are the reliable income. Free Ride is fun but it isn't where the cash is.
Drifting pays. The more you drift, the more points you bank — and points convert into money. That means a scrappy, sideways run through a corner can be worth more than a clean, fast one. Don't drive like a purist if you're farming cash.
The faster your car gets, the more you earn, so early upgrades compound. Spending on performance early pays for itself.
Upgrades: What to Buy First
Each car has four stats: power, acceleration, brakes and grip.
Buy grip and handling before top speed. The city tracks are tight, elevated and full of corners with nothing but air on the other side. A car that goes faster than you can steer will spend more time hitting barriers than winning races. Grip also makes drifting more controllable, which loops straight back into earning more money.
Then acceleration, since these are short bursty tracks where getting back up to speed after a corner matters more than a high top end.
Skins last. They look fantastic and do nothing for your lap times. Buy them once money stops being the bottleneck.
Tactics
Save nitro for straights. Fired into a corner, boost pushes you wide and off the edge. On these elevated highways, that's a long drop. Use it on long open stretches or to complete an overtake you've already set up.
Don't boost in traffic. Nitro cuts your reaction time badly. Wait for clear road.
Learn the physics in Free Ride first. No damage, no timer, no restrictions — it's a free sandbox to work out how the cars handle before it costs you a race.
In Hot Chase, treat HP as your score. Every collision costs health. Clean driving lasts longer than aggressive driving, which inverts the usual advice.
In Battle Arena, keep moving. A stationary car is an easy target in a derby.
Drift the corners you can't take fast anyway. If a corner is going to slow you down regardless, sliding through it at least banks points.
Common Problems
Nitro won't fire. It's N for Player 1 and T for Player 2 — not spacebar.
I keep falling off the track. You're carrying too much speed and probably boosting into corners. Upgrade grip, and save nitro for straights.
I can't find the secret car. It unlocks by collecting all 60 gems in Free Ride, not through Career.
Hot Chase ends quickly for me. It's a health-based survival mode. Avoid collisions rather than driving aggressively.
Two-player keys feel cramped. N and T on one keyboard is tight. An external full-size keyboard genuinely helps.
The game won't load or runs slowly. It's a WebGL build, so it's heavier than a simple arcade game. Close other tabs, especially video ones, and give the first load time — it caches afterwards.
Keyboard doesn't respond. Click once directly on the game window first.
